Setting up the RS1000 Pro from Nextwave for everyday work
Setting up the RS1000 Pro from Nextwave for everyday work
I have had some people claim that it takes a lot longer to setup the RS1000 Pro than it does to setup a regular router table. In this video I time how long it takes to setup the RS1000 Pro so that you can make your own decision. I also explain how to perform the setup and discuss a few cool advantages that the RS1000 Pro has over other router lift systems. As always be sure to hit that Subscribe button,

In this video I show how I create my toolpaths for surfacing my spoil board and creating the grid. I use Aspire from @vectric but the steps in this video can be done in Cut2D and V-carve Pro. This is the first of many videos to come where I show how powerful and useful the software from Vectric can be. It is by far the best design software for all CNC woodworking. How about carbon steel saw blade not carbide tipped?
Hi Michael, thanks for the heads up . I’ve just cleaned my oven , and so got to wondering if the same product could be used on my saw blades . So I thought I’d check out the science first . You speak a lot of sense and you put the brakes on me using oven cleaner, so many thanks for that . Somewhere in the back of my mind alarm bells rang out about sodium hydroxide reacting to certain metals , so I’m glad I checked . Kind regards John 😊😮👨🦳🪚🔨🙋♂️

fuck so long
If a 23 minute video is too long for you then you would be really upset with my cross cut sled assembly video.
Nice through explanation went through every step and why you did it that way, liked the way you presented
Thank you
Thanks

That thing is expensive $1700 just for it and it seems to take a lot of set up time
Glad you called out the 6" inches of fence movement because they advertise 12". I get it, they are accounting for most router table sizes but they don't give a lot of guidance on how to get the full 12" of travel. Did you get the full 12"?
I get about 7” from the center of the bit. If I built my table bigger from front to back I could get the full 12”.
@@mkdesignsfinewoodworking Mine is in the garage waiting to be setup. So you just screw it into the surface of the table? I thought I saw something about some indexing pins on the underside of the mounting bracket
@ShanePresleyC if I could show you a pic this would make more sense. They aren’t indexing pins. They are cap screws that attach the mount to the motor. But yes they help you align it.
That is incredibly to the point. No verbal foreplay. That is so helpful, I can't even tell you. Thanks.
Very detailed instructional! I think it will really help a lot of people. Thank you!
Great video. So helpful!
How much did this cost if you don’t mind me asking
My cost (if I remember correctly ) was around $600.
@@mkdesignsfinewoodworking thanks, awesome work btw
@eddygoodwin7089 thank you.
Cool!
Me too, Worked like a champ
I am happy for you guys. The boxes came out nice
I guess I just don’t get it! I don’t see anything that makes that worth having. I can perform all those functions manually and probably faster because of the set up time. I understand the repeatability advantage but not worth the set up time.
I’m not sure I follow. What set up time are you referring to? Zeroing the bit and the fence out and setting the bit height and fence distance doesn’t take any longer than doing it manually. In fact once you get the hang of it, it’s faster. I can get the table setup in around 2 mins. The biggest time saver for me though is when I have to make multiple passes at different depths. I don’t have to power down the router and adjust it manually. I simply set the next depth and go.
I have heard often that climb cut is not great, bit is trying to climb out of the cut which causes chatter as it is cutting from the outside of cut edge inward toward where you are cutting, conventional scoops from cut toward outside and provides constant pressure against spindle
This video sparked my interest because im going to be doing a butterfly bandsaw box next week. I saw you did drawers different than i was thinking. I noticed the butterfly wasn't really featured in this video. Great job though love the video.
Just finished the Grid and Surface and have it saved. Took me several tries because I was trying to watch the video and then switch to V-carve back and forth on my laptop. Tonight I used another computer to watch the video and my laptop to work on. Much easier. Question (I'm new at this) when I go to run the surface do I need to set the center of my board as the XY? Or does the program just use the size entered and the toolpath and go to town? I know I have to set Z.
You will need to set the X and Y to the same spot that you set in V-Carve for the XY Datum.
Thank you. I was wondering if there would be any advantage in using a pocket cut in raster mode (no layout needed)?
I’m not sure what you mean by no layout needed. You will still have to layout for the raster. Also, the reason you want to use offset instead of raster is because: 1- with raster you are only flattening along one axis or the other ( depending on your raster angle) . I know it seems like it would be flattening in both but it won’t. It’s kinda difficult to explain in text but essentially it will only move across one axis or the other except on the end of the line. 2- if you run it in raster across X (for example) and you need to tram your router/spindle in Y it won’t show you that and vice versa. You could run it across X then run again along Y but that creates multiple steps and adds to the total time. So we run it in offset and that gets us where we need to be without the extra steps.
thanks@@mkdesignsfinewoodworking
Beautiful, inspiring work. Thanks for the video
Just a note from a newbie. Router fences do not need to be parallel because it’s not a linear cutter like table saw or band saw it’s a circular cutter. Ordered mine today. These fences/systems are game changers
I was waiting for someone to bring that up😊
hello may i ask did you conect water pump to VFD to start pumping when spindle starts??? can u tell me seting and where did u cocnect it?
I am not sure I understand the question. The water pump connects to the spindle not the VFD and there are no settings. It’s plug and play as it were.
If using the Shark spoil board can I still use your toolpath setup for surfacing and cutting the grids?
I agree with the others, this is the best explanation on this that I've seen. There is a tendency when explaining things that since the speaker knows what they are talking about, they assume that everything is clear. You did not assume, you elaborated. Very nice job!
Thank you
Hello. I am interested in purchasing your mdf jigs. What is your site to order them. I made a set of these chairs about 2 years ago using his plans. Jigs would make life easier for me
Great Video! Thank you!
Great video and work
Well done video. Thanks😊
That looks really nice. On my shark. I used nylon bolts and nuts and bolted down a 3/4 inch pice of mdf. On top of that I cut a mirror sized board of the first with the same bolt holes minus the pockets for the nuts and glued that with weight using wood glue. I then flattend the new jig board and sat back and said wow that looks nice. I then put in a 1/4" waste board on top of this jig board and hold it down with 23 gauage pin nails. This board I consider it trash and will replace it after it's all cut up. So I have a 24 by 24 jig and waste board on my Shark HD510 it will cut 25 by 25 but I leaned to keep the boards inside the cutting outter limits of the shark so I can resurface every thing. 2 days after cleaning this all up and making it pretty... I have a 1/8" bit snag a pice of cut out and raise up and jamb the router loosing it's z height...for some reason it started drilling down 3/4" of a inch and in a few seconds I had a brand new hole in my brand new really cool looking jig bard and waste board. So I removed the waste board. Poping it up and off the jig board with a long screw driver. Removed the pin nails that I had to hold it in place and then filled the new hole in my jig board with glue and sawdust leaving it a bit proud and also filled a few screw holes with glue and tooth picks. Let this dry over night and ran the flattening 2" planner bit and added a new piece of waste board all was looking really cool and neat again. 2 weeks later I had a bit slip in a collet. After retighting it it slipped again... pulled the collet and cleaned it and put it to the side as suspicious.... Filled in the big hole again 3/4" by 2.5" by 5/8: deep with saw dust (I also bought some plastic wood filler to try but haven't used it yet) I have been making dice puzzle boxes on the CNC made 21 of them in the past couple of months 12 this past week. Each one has 30 parts and they are fun to make but the batch of 12 makes it turn into work.... "retired" ha! Moral of this story is about the time you think you have solved the spoil board delima....look out here comes the fun! Thanks for sharing your videos. I enjoy them.
Thanks, that helped
Good
Just a thought: In reality, what we're looking for is a perfect square between the cutting line of the blade and the support fence for cuts... If we make the cut on the table and place two squares (precise and long enough) one on each side of the cut (with the separation of the thickness of the cutting blade) resting on the fence, we can gradually replace the fence until the two are identical in relation to the cutting line....
How do you tell which side is up on the 13 each Back Slate?
James explains it in the build video but the smaller arc goes to the bottom.
The clearest video on this. thank you so much!
Great info! I am trying to find and buy a blade guard and anti kick back thing for a R4512 but I can't find them anywhere. The rigid web site is the worst!
Best calibration video I've seen.. Congrats!
Nothing but issues with 2 HD520. They cant cut! Customer service is great but the machine is not a production machine and cutting 1/16th as they recomend just is not a good thing!!!!!!!!!!!! hundreds of communications between me and them. They sent every part new and still issues. There is no testing in house and there is nothing more then they can do but say we will refund you. But they want the machine back first before they refund me! worst mistake of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What table did you use? Model number pls.
Straight to the point, Many Thanks!
I’m having issues with the pendant and once I set up the tap file
Great video how do i connect my WiFi or flash drive to my shark as 110 Thanks
If you have a pendant you can use a usb with it. If you don’t have a pendant you will have to use a computer. I believe you can order a pendant for the sd110 if you don’t one. nextwavecnc.com/product/controller-pendant-kit-piranha-fx-sd110/
@@mkdesignsfinewoodworking So thank you for responding I have pendant but I’m not getting the toolpath how ever it didn’t save to my flash drive
@jim6402 that’s an issue with your computer and your save location when you save out the toolpath. As long as your usb is 16GB or less and your computer can see it when it’s plugged in, and you make sure you are selecting the USB drive when you save out the toolpath it should work fine.
@@mkdesignsfinewoodworking Ok I will get smaller Drive then thank you for your help
Instead of lady susan bearing please what else can I use
